This policy explains what information SaySee collects, how it is used, and what choices you have.
Information We Collect
- Account information, such as your SaySee user ID and Apple Sign In name or email when Apple provides them.
- Conversation content, including text you send, partner replies, remembered expressions, and remembered practice moments.
- Practice profile details you choose to share, for example when you start using SaySee, such as your age range, native language, learning goals and current level.
- Long-term memories: what partners remember from your conversations, described below.
- Images you explicitly choose to capture or upload for scene/image chat.
- App interaction data needed for app functionality, quota, partner state, learning surfaces, abuse prevention, and service reliability.
- Purchase and subscription information from Apple StoreKit.
- Device identifiers, push tokens, and similar technical data needed for secure login, notifications, diagnostics, abuse prevention, and service reliability.
- Diagnostics such as crash, performance, and operational error data.
Speech, Text, Images, And AI Processing
In the current iOS release, speech recognition runs on device. SaySee does not intentionally send raw microphone recordings to its servers for speech recognition, but transcribed text you choose to send may be processed by SaySee's backend and AI providers as conversation content.
Conversation text, optional images you share, and related context may be processed by SaySee's backend and cloud AI service providers to generate replies, maintain conversation context, enforce quota, prevent abuse, and operate the service.
Third-party AI. SaySee's AI replies are written by third-party AI model services. SaySee may use one or more of the following:
- Volcengine Ark (火山方舟), provided by Beijing Volcano Engine Technology Co., Ltd. (北京火山引擎科技有限公司). SaySee uses this service today.
- Alibaba Cloud Model Studio (阿里云百炼, Qwen models), provided by 通义云启（杭州）信息技术有限公司.
- DeepSeek, provided by Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Basic Technology Research Co., Ltd. (杭州深度求索人工智能基础技术研究有限公司).
When you use a conversation, scene, photo or help feature, SaySee sends the service in use the text you send, images you choose to share, recent conversation context, and the memories selected for that reply, so that the model can write the response. The provider processes this content under its service agreement with SaySee and its own data-processing terms, which govern the details. For Volcengine Ark, which SaySee uses today: under Volcano Engine's Products and Services Agreement, Volcano Engine does not use the content except as needed to provide the service or with SaySee's authorisation, and deletes or anonymises it within a reasonable period after providing the service; under Volcengine Ark's model service agreement, the content is not used to train or improve its base models unless SaySee separately agrees, which SaySee has not done, and Volcano Engine may review content automatically to meet legal compliance requirements. SaySee sends only what is needed to write the reply, and uses only providers whose terms give at least these protections. Before using a provider not listed here, SaySee will update this policy and ask for your agreement again. SaySee's AI features cannot work without this processing.
How SaySee labels AI-generated content in the app is described in the Terms of Service.
On-device models. Speech recognition (which uses a Qwen speech model) and the partners' voices run entirely on your device. They send nothing to the providers above.
How We Use Information
We use information to provide conversations, remember useful expressions, process subscriptions and quota, support export/deletion, improve reliability, prevent abuse, protect service integrity, and comply with legal obligations.
Some of this processing runs automatically after or between conversations, for example to summarise a conversation, update long-term memories, prepare a scene, suggest scene ideas, or check and regenerate output for quality and safety. It is part of providing those features, and it uses your allowance as described in the Terms of Service.
Improving SaySee. SaySee may analyse how the app is used in order to fix problems and improve features: for example which features are used, how long sessions last, where people get stuck, error rates, and, if you shared them, your age range, native language and learning goals. Before this analysis the data is de-identified: names, contact details and account identifiers are removed, so that it cannot identify you without separately kept information, and results are looked at in aggregate across many users. The text of your conversations and the images you share are not used for this analysis. It is not used to make decisions about you individually, to profile you for advertising, or to identify you, and it is not sold or provided to others for their own purposes. Information of users known to be under 14 is excluded. Aggregated results describe groups, not individuals; de-identified records are kept no longer than the records they come from. This analysis is on by default and limited to the de-identified, aggregated usage analysis described here. You can turn it off in the app's Data & Privacy settings at any time; turning it off stops this analysis for your account and does not affect any other feature.
Safety. The content of your messages is automatically analysed to detect signs that you might harm yourself or be in danger, so that SaySee can point you to sources of help and, in Chat, keep your partner supportive for a short while afterwards instead of continuing the practice. This analysis is part of providing the service and is not used for any other purpose: its results are not written to logs or to long-term memory, and messages it flags are not used to form long-term memories. SaySee does not collect emergency contacts or guardian contacts.
Long-Term Memory
Partners remember things you tell them about yourself and what you did together, so that later conversations can pick up where you left off. Memories about you, such as your job or what you are preparing for, are used by every partner; what happened with one partner stays with that partner. The AI writes memories from your conversations. They are kept on your device and in your iCloud, and SaySee's servers keep a copy so that replies can use them. SaySee does not use your memories or conversations to train AI models.
Please avoid sending sensitive personal information that has nothing to do with language practice, such as health details, financial account information, precise location or religious beliefs, and do not send other people's personal information without a lawful basis.
Some memories, such as what happened in a recent conversation, expire on their own after a while. Other memories are kept until you delete them or your account. Permanently deleting a partner forgets what was specific to that partner. You can also ask us to delete memories through the contact email below.
Images And Camera
SaySee only receives camera or photo content when you explicitly choose to share it. Shared images may be processed so your partner can respond to what you are showing.
Support Emails
When you write to SaySee support, including through Send Feedback in the app, SaySee receives what you send: your email address, your message and any screenshots or other attachments you choose to add. Send Feedback pre-fills the app version, device model, iOS version, app language and an account code, which you can edit or delete before sending; the app attaches no logs or other diagnostic data. SaySee uses support emails only to answer you and to find and fix the problems you report. They are kept only for the shortest period needed for these purposes, unless the law requires otherwise. Because they are not stored with your account, deleting your account does not delete them automatically; you can ask support to delete them at any time.
Data Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We may process data with service providers needed to operate SaySee, such as cloud hosting, AI inference (the AI model services described above), diagnostics, payment verification, and Apple-provided system or App Store services. Service providers may process this data only to support SaySee's functionality and operation, under their agreements with SaySee.
SaySee stores and processes your personal information within mainland China and does not itself provide it to recipients outside mainland China.
Apple-provided services, such as Sign in with Apple, in-app purchases and their verification, push notifications, and iCloud/CloudKit sync where available, are provided by Apple under its own terms, privacy policy and your account settings. Apple processes the related information for these services as an independent party; this processing may take place outside mainland China and is governed by Apple's terms, not controlled by SaySee.
Retention, Account Deletion, And Data Export
SaySee's servers keep the text of your Chat conversations for at most 90 days, and images you share usually for 7 days and in any case for at most 90 days, then delete them automatically; they may be deleted sooner. Conversation text is kept this long so that partners can pick up where recent conversations left off, summaries and memories can be completed and corrected, and problems, complaints and safety reports about a conversation can be looked into. Unfinished summaries, memory updates or billing do not extend the 90-day limit. Help you ask for inside a scene, such as translations and hints, follows the same period. This period does not cover scene records: the scenes you set up, and the conversations, progress and recaps inside them, are kept on SaySee's servers so that you can continue, review and redo them, and are deleted when you delete the scene, as described below, or your account. Long-term memories are kept as described above. Purchase, allowance and usage records are kept for 3 years after the transaction for billing, refunds and disputes. Backups are kept for up to 14 days. The history on your device and in your iCloud is yours to manage; deleting a conversation in the app does not immediately remove the server copy, which follows the periods above.
You can export your data in the app under Me -> Data & Privacy -> Export My Data, and delete your account under Me -> Account Management -> Delete Account. Account deletion removes active account data according to SaySee's deletion flow. It does not automatically cancel App Store subscriptions; manage subscriptions through Apple. Limited records may be retained where needed for security, billing, fraud prevention, dispute handling, backup recovery, or legal compliance.
To stop gift allowance from being claimed again, for example by deleting an account and signing up again, SaySee keeps a grant record, on the basis of your agreement to this policy, whenever it gives gift allowance such as a sign-up trial, an early-bird gift or an invitation reward: your Apple account identifier processed with a secret key, the allowance type and campaign, the amount and the time it was given. The record contains no name, email, conversations or other account data, but it is de-identified personal information: SaySee can match the same Apple account against it, and uses it only to check whether gift allowance has already been claimed and to keep campaigns within budget. It is deleted 12 months after the gift was given, or earlier if you withdraw your agreement or ask for it to be deleted. After deleting your account you can still ask, through the contact email at the end of this policy, to see, copy or delete the record; to verify that it is yours, you need to sign in to SaySee with the same Apple account. We reply within 15 working days, and if we do not delete it we tell you the basis and the reason. Anything kept only because a legal retention period has not ended or deletion is technically not feasible is only stored and protected, and is no longer used to check claims.
When you delete a scene in the app, SaySee also deletes it from its servers, usually right away and at most within 7 days. Usage and billing records for that scene are kept without its content. Copies held by our AI model provider expire within 3 days.
You may request access, export/copy, correction, deletion, withdrawal of consent where applicable, or complaint handling through the in-app controls or the contact email at the end of this policy. We reply within 15 working days of receiving your request.
You can withdraw your agreement to this policy, including the AI processing described above, in the app under Me -> Data & Privacy -> Withdraw Privacy Agreement, or through the contact email. Withdrawal applies to your account on all your devices and on SaySee's servers. SaySee stops the processing that relies on your agreement, including AI replies, conversation summaries, memory updates and scene preparation, and does not continue such tasks that were queued or in progress. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawfully completed before it. SaySee then deletes the personal information on its servers that was processed only on the basis of your agreement, including the text of scene conversations. There are two exceptions. Scenes you have saved are kept, because you chose to keep them, but are not processed until you agree again, and are deleted with your account. Where the law requires information to be kept or deletion is temporarily not technically feasible, SaySee stops all processing except storage and necessary security measures and deletes it once that reason ends. The history on your device and in your iCloud stays under your control. AI features are unavailable until you agree again.
Security
SaySee uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, but no networked service can guarantee absolute security.
Children
SaySee is not designed for children under 14 and does not knowingly process their personal information. Users under 18 should use SaySee only with a parent's or guardian's consent. If you believe a child under 14 has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy as SaySee changes. If SaySee changes the purposes or ways it processes personal information, it will update this policy, tell you in the app, and ask for your agreement again where the law requires.
